Chemical giant BASF announced plans to build a new butadiene extraction plant at its production site in Antwerp, Belgium. With a planned annual production capacity of 155,000 metric tons, the plant would be bigger than the company's existing butadiene extraction at Ludwigshafen, Germany.

The report reveals that in the engineering plastics market, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene accounts for about 40 % of the total demand. The market research company has also evaluated various types of plastics including ABS, PC, PA, PMMA, POM, PBT, SAN, and fluoropolymers in its study.

Fluor Corporation has achieved mechanical completion on a citral facility and associated infrastructure for Basf Petronas Chemicals in Kuantan, Malaysia.

BASF plans to increase their production capacity for methane sulfonic acid (MSA) at its Ludwigshafen site by around 65 %, thus increasing their global capacity to 50,000 metric tons per year.
