Asahi Kasei has commenced the construction of an alkaline water electrolysis pilot test plant for sustainable hydrogen production in Japan. The pilot plant will comprise several ‘Aqualizer’ electrolyzer modules which will help to perform various trial operations.

Asahi Kasei has partnered with Kurashiki City to evaluate and demonstrate the performance of a biogas purification system at a sewage treatment plant in Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan. The system is expected to refine high-purity methane gas by removing CO2 from biogas utilizing Asahi Kasei’s newly developed adsorbent, which selectively adsorbs CO2.

Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management contract by PVC manufacturer Kem One for developing a green chlor-alkali electrolysis plant at Fos-Sur-Mer in France. The new plant will replace the company’s existing diaphragm electrolysis plant to produce chlorine, caustic soda and hydrogen.

Asahi Kasei will make use of Shell’s sustainable butadiene derived from plastic waste and biomass to produce solution-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (S-SBR) at its Singapore plant. Shell will produce the green butadiene by a mass balance method in two ways including a method of converting plastic waste into pyrolysis oil and feeding it to the naphtha cracker, and the other is using bio-feedstock as a naphtha cracker feed.
