Perstorp has plans to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by around 500,000 tonnes by producing sustainable methanol. With ‘Project Air’, the company aims to build a first-of-a-kind, large-scale, commercial Carbon Capture, and Utilisation (CCU) unit to produce the green methanol.

The two production units are expected to recycle organic material from agricultural and livestock activities and convert it into biomethane. The facilities will be constructed in Truccazzano, Milan and Fontanella, Bergamo.

On December 2, a fire broke out at Tjeldbergodden’s methanol plant in Norway. The fire was successfully extinguished on the same day and no one was injured in the accident.

Yara has plans to produce 500,000 tonnes per annum of green ammonia in Norway. The move is expected to support the hydrogen economy in the region. The company also has plans to fully electrify its ammonia plant in Porsgrunn which has the potential to reduce 800,000 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
