The development of generic exposure scenarios also required significant interaction with customers and downstream users, in order to understand the conditions under which products or formulations are used, and the resulting potential for human and environmental exposure.

“This early input was vital to allow time for in-depth safety assessments in order that we could be confident that the exposure data and risk management measures in safety dossiers complied with the fundamental principles of the regulation and would stand up to scrutiny,” says Carol Banner, REACH Compliance Manager for Shell Chemicals.

“We understand the importance of continuity of supply to our customers, which is why we have worked so hard to achieve our registrations. We will continue to support our products during the next phase of REACH, which will involve the Evaluation of our safety dossiers by ECHA,” she says.

“While registration marks the end of a significant piece of work, it has also initiated a new wave of compliance activity, including the generation of new REACH-compliant Safety Data Sheets.”
