Drivers of Process Automation

Sensor Technology: In the sensor, the existing trends continue towards maximum robust sensors isolated from the process. It is beyond this in analytics. The applications progressively extend from the laboratory to the process. SW and intelligent signal processing shall also improve the performance of the sensor.

Industry 4.0/Internet of Things: … is also in process automation: Ethernet on the field, Webserver, WiFi, APL are key words as well as operation via Tablets and Smartphones or usage of other “Smart Devices”. The integration between Office and Shop floor is important, across the corporate boundaries to the value-adding networks and throughout Engineering Life Cycles.

Digitalization: The most important impulse of digitalization extends to the processes and the new data-driven business models. These predominantly reach the user as services and help to increase the productivity and reduce the costs.

Cyber Security and Data protection: We should not forget the environment. It refers to Cyber Security, Data Protection and data usage. Here, regulations are questioned. However, our employees are more important, who should learn all the new things. Without Advanced training 4.0, no Industry 4.0.

Training is the Key to Success

It not only refers to the protection of data confidentiality, but also to the availability of critical infrastructures such as energy system, water supply or transport infrastructure. We should also manage and transfer all these discussions and experiences in the world of processing. No one purchases digitalization, Internet of Things or Industry 4.0, but they purchase technologies and solutions. Thus, intensive exchange at an early stage regarding the future of process industry is required.

The discussions between the suppliers and operators should be specifically based on the planned and individual requirements of the respective manufacturing companies. However, it is also clear: Without intensive advanced training of our employees, we cannot raise the big chances from the mentioned developments.
