Many asset management functions, whether for preventive maintenance or immediate corrective action, have been implemented in the new series. Interview: Innovating Bulk Measurement Process

Vega has launched a Vegaflex 82 with innovative features especially for bulk materials. Managing Director, Vega India Level & Pressure Measurement, Sudarsan Srinivasan, talks about the latest trends and the new instrument.

PROCESS: What trends do you observe in the field of instrumentation in India?

SUDARSAN SRINIVASAN: Automaton in India has changed the way industries work today. In the late eighties, SCADA replaced many single loop controllers, which was taken over subsequently by PLC and DC systems for control in field. Today, customers are more open to changes than before. Instead of conventional technologies, they now take calculated decisions on new technologies. The latest trend is openness to latest technology to get better returns with optimum investment.

PROCESS: What benefits do process instrumentation offer in the automated plants?

SRINIVASAN: Most of the Indian process industries are striving to live up to global standards and the users have understood the benefits of setting up high-end process control instrumentation in their plants. There is a major paradigm shift in the buyers with no restrictions on sourcing from different countries. As a result, buyers manage to get the best technology from across the globe. Obviously, the other benefit of optimization in automation has also increased the competition in the market place and has a direct positive effect on prices for the buyer.

PROCESS: Are products from Vega customized as per the users’ requirements?

SRINIVASAN: Vega India strives to be more solution centric than being a mere product supply company. Being a level and pressure specialist for over five decades now, customers come to us for providing solutions for most difficult applications. With the intention of integrating our instruments with related control systems, we plan to work with some system houses to give the customers an optimum field instrumentation engineering solution. We have already succeeded in working with some key OEM’s on these lines.

PROCESS: Can you tell us about the benefits that Vegaflex 82 offers?

SRINIVASAN: VEGAFLEX 82 acts quite differently as it has the ability to determine the dielectric constant at all times. Additionally, it determines the length of the probe automatically and thereby accelerates the setup procedure immensely. Another important feature is the automatic probe end tracking function.

A New Sensor with Guided Radar for Level and Interface Measurement

Thanks to intelligent algorithms and software, Vegaflex 82 scores highly in applications where measurement was previously very difficult, such as plastics with low dielectric constant. Even in standard applications, the new generation of level and interface transmitters delivers a convincing performance due to its simplicity, menu-driven setup and reliable data acquisition.
