From 3rd to 5th December, Sacmi is back at Drink Japan. Alongside increasingly advanced technology that focuses on high productivity, new digital controls will be on show, together with the Rigid Packaging Lab’s comprehensive range of product development and consulting services.
At the upcoming Drink Japan fair which will be held at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo from December 3-5, 2025, Sacmi will present an integrated, digital production line for caps and preforms. Offering cutting-edge productivity and efficiency – thanks to the recently-launched CCM64MD cap presses and IPS400D preform presses – this Sacmi line takes digital control to the next level. How? By integrating hardware-software solutions on all the machines, providing new cloud-based support services and having AI vision systems perform smart, predictive process and maintenance management, shares the company.
Digitalized line controls, advanced diagnostics
The tangible advantages that stem from process digitalization will be a key part of the Sacmi offering at Drink Japan. To begin with, there’s Smartpack, an advanced, machine-integrated hardware-software kit that maximizes the flexibility and precision of real-time adjustments during production.
This system oversees key process parameters such as correct pellet insertion, the condition of the hydraulic oil and the mold cooling mixture, plus proper operation of components in both the hydraulic and temperature control systems. All data is readily available in the Control Room, allowing real-time monitoring. Smartpack can predict production drifts, simplify running to prevent waste or errors, and ensure long-term machine and mold efficiency, adds the firm.
Alongside Smartpack, Sacmi also offers Smartcare, a process parameter monitoring solution that, thanks to cloud-based sharing of machine operating data with Sacmi assistance, provides predictive information on performance, diagnostics and maintenance.
Integrated cap-preform design, new recycling opportunities
In addition to a winning synergy of cap and preform technology, Sacmi customers can take advantage of the Rigid Packaging Lab's comprehensive range of product development and design services.
With its cross-disciplinary expertise and sophisticated equipment, the Lab develops comprehensive, optimized solutions to meet every packaging requirement. For example, it offers the market’s widest range of new 26/22 mm neck-caps, available in both tethered and non-tethered versions, combining the best environmental performance (lower overall weight of cap-preform system, lower consumption of virgin plastics) with the best practicality and consumer experience, explains the company.
Comprehensive consulting also includes new recycling opportunities: for example, the recently-presented Sacmi Purecap project aims to create a complete supply chain for the manufacture of caps in recycled HDPE. With Sacmi Purecap, the Lab's services include product development and design, plus the provision of a complete production recipe to ensure aesthetic and functional results that match the specifications of the industry’s major brand owners.
Vision systems and AI
Needless to say, at Drink Japan Sacmi will also be showcasing its cornerstone artificial vision systems: they’ve been adding value to Sacmi solutions for a long time and are now more advanced than ever as they make full use of automation by maximizing synergy between traditional quality control and AI, mentions the firm.
One of the latest innovations to reach the market is PVS Robot, which performs automatic off-line preform quality control. What’s more, all systems can be merged with the Classy AI software interface to allow automatic defect classification: this makes it easier to train workers how to use the systems and provides real-time access to process data and logged data.
