New Delhi/India – Nuberg EPC has been awarded a contract to develop a 10 tons per day (TPD) bio-ethanol project to deliver 2nd generation bio-ethanol on a Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) basis in Panipat, Haryana. The project, owned by Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), will produce ethanol for fuel blending. Nuberg EPC will be the single-point solution company responsible from concept to commissioning of the project. The project is expected to be completed in 11 months with mechanical completion by June 2022.

The 10 TPD Bio-Ethanol project is based on the technology developed by IOCL's R&D team. The Government of India's blended ethanol fuel roadmap envisages raising its pan-India ethanol production capacity. This will enable the phased rollout of E10 fuels (biofuel made up of 90 % regular unleaded and 10 % ethanol) by April 2022 and the phased rollout of E20 from April 2023 for complete availability by April 2025.

Challenges for EPC Contractors

With an influx of largescale petrochemical construction projects, EPC Contractors will have to be confronted with challenges such as finding enough capacity and quality of construction manpower, delayed permits etc. which require an EPC strategy to stay competitive in this ever-growing market.

This 12-page Process Insight will discuss the current changes in the EPC business and the impact of these changes on EPC projects. Besides the effect of the Coronavirus as well as the current oil price crash on the contracting industry will also be analyzed and an outlook for the industry will be given.

Currently, India has an ethanol blend of around 8.33 %. The advantages of using ethanol blended fuel include savings in foreign exchange along with reduced environmental pollution. Biomass based ethanol also helps to increase the proportion of green energy in the conventional fossil fuel transportation industry and sets the pace for the upcoming green hydrogen economy.

Nuberg EPC's scope of services includes process design & technology including product and technology development – inhouse as well as with third party licensors, process know-how & licensing, basic engineering, Front End Engineering Design (feed), residual detailed engineering, procurement, construction management, operation & maintenance, detailed engineering, project management, commissioning, EPC & LSTK solutions, heavy fabrication, and start-up of the plant.
