In addition, vacuum drying avoids the creation of unwanted oxidation products or explosive mixtures of solvent vapor and air.
Vacuum Pumps for Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals
Saurus939 piston vacuum pumps from Italvacuum are particularly suitable for drying chemical and pharmaceutical products, and for other processes such as distillation, reaction, and crystallization. Their design is essentially simple, but backed by innovative technical features such as the new LubriZero system, which uses Teflon moving parts to reduces oil consumption to very low levels, and the ability to use FDA-approved synthetic oils.
Even when used with aggressive solvents, Saurus939 vacuum pumps guarantee:
- absolute safety for the process and the operators;
- separation between the process and the mechanical side (uncontaminated vacuum);
- high resistance to particulate material, corrosion, condensed solvents and distillation by-products;
- unrestricted operation over the full range of vacuum;
- low operating speed (250 rpm) and low working temperature;
- ability to operate safely in hazardous atmospheres;
- long life and absolute reliability; and
- low energy consumption and easy, low-cost, maintenance for very low overall operating costs.
The separation of the vacuum pump from the process chamber eliminates any risk of product contamination by the lubricating oil, as certified in a report from the Politecnico di Torino.
Saurus939 pumps are Atex-compliant. The basic model is rated CE ex II 2 G T4 (Zone 1 areas, 135 °C). Other models are available for Zone 0 areas and for Zone 1 temperature classes up to T3 (200 °C).
Italvacuum offers three models of single-stage Saurus939 pumps and three two-stage models, to cover nominal flowrates of 80–3,800 m3/h and vacuum levels of 7–0.03 mbar.
All types are air-cooled. Special models fitted with a Roots blower as a backing pump are available on request. kem
