Norway: Accident Fire at Equinor’s Hammerfest LNG Plant in Norway

The fire has been extinguished at Equinor’s Hammerfest LNG plant in Melkøya, Norway. It had occurred in a turbine at the facility on September 28, 2020; however, no personnel were injured.

Norway – On September 28, 2020, a fire occurred at Equinor’s Hammerfest LNG plant in Melkøya, Norway. The fire was extinguished at 23:30 CEST and the facilities were secured. Equinor was notified about a fire in a turbine at the plant at approximately 15:30 CEST following which emergency services were called in.

The Hammerfest LNG plant was shut down in accordance with emergency routines and no personnel were injured in the incident. Equinor will now assess the damage caused by the fire and also ascertain the cause of the fire leading to the incident.
