As India is moving across the country from joint family to nuclear family, packaging will also move from a unit pack to family packs,” continued Bangera.

Future predictions Despite its challenges, the Indian F&B sector is only set to further growth. According to Dr Maitin, the global alcoholic beverage market is expected to witness moderate growth by 2018. “The demand of alcoholic beverages in India and emerging countries is increasing exponentially because of the huge population base and growing consumption of alcohol by the young generation as well as rising disposable income which supports the industry growth. Valuable opportunities exist in the global alcoholic beverage industry, due to impressive trends in demand quantity and growth, based on the various markets,” stated Dr Maitin.

100 Billion In Ice Cream

Momaya predicts that the market size for ice-creams will grow to around `100 billion by 2020. “Growth of the ice-cream segment in India will continue to be driven by the increasing urbanization, changing consumer lifestyles. Players with adequate cold storage infrastructure and strong distribution network would be able to grow at a significantly faster pace,” he admitted.

Speaking on the distinct opportunities the country has to offer Gupta declared “With a per capita consumption of 14 per year for Coca-Cola products, as compared to the global average of 94, the Indian market offers huge growth opportunity. The per capita consumption of Non Alcoholic Ready to Drink (NARTD) beverages in India is just 45. An increasingly evolving middle class, higher disposable income, changing lifestyles and habits are key factors that will fuel growth of the beverage industry.”

An Indian Flavor

Agreeing with the Gupta, Bangera suggested that in the future the particular tastes of India will overtake imported ones because there is so much of potential for growth in the country. More and more types of products will have Indian flavors and fresh that will be packaged according to the needs of the busy Indian.
