Thanks to the Internet, tasks that used to take hours or days can be completed in seconds or minutes. This “right now” effect has also trickled down to the world of pumps.

In years past, whenever a pump broke down, or routine maintenance was needed, the facility manager had two choices: dig around for the manual, identify the problem and then try to fix it; or call the manufacturer or distributor and wait for a service technician to arrive on site.

Realizing the power of the Web, many pump manufacturers are developing online maintenance videos to help their distributors and end-users install and maintain their equipment. While a 10-minute video on YouTube or the manufacturer’s website will never be a complete substitute for the experience of a skilled field engineer, it can save a great deal of time during routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
