Brussels/Belgium – Cefic has partnered up with the European Commission’s European Innovation Council (EIC) to co-organize a unique 2-day hybrid matchmaking event on June 22 – 23. During ‘Chemistry4EU: Achieving sustainability through chemistry’ over 30 EIC-funded start-ups will pitch innovative solutions in 5 areas linked to the transformation pathways, to 13 of the largest chemical companies and associations.

Marco Mensink, Director General Cefic said: "The chemical industry is facing a tsunami of change. The only way out is to find a surfboard and ride the wave exactly where it breaks. Innovation is that surfboard. We need to be the frontrunners that develop the first commercial applications of breakthrough technologies in key industrial sectors by 2030. By working together with start-ups, we will bring transformational breakthroughs closer to market.”

We truly believe this EIC Enhanced Cooperation is a new great opportunity for all and another important landmark in the long-lasting collaboration with these players that we highly appreciate. I am looking forward to the great deal of business opportunities that will stem from this event!”

The pitches will be preceded by a public session on June 22, during which policymakers, academics, industry and start-ups will engage in interactive discussions around Future Chemistry, and whether it is synonymous to the EU Green Deal, how the EIC acts as powerhouse, and how the chemical industry can help pave the way.

Cefic member companies and the start-ups will continue the event on June 23 in parallel sessions during which the start-ups will pitch on: health, safety and environment; circular economy; reducing and reusing CO2; digital transformation in the chemical industry; and enabling green manufacturing sites.
