GROAB-Project of the Month: Ultra-high Molecular Weight Polethylene Celanese to Expand Capacity in Texas

Celanese announced plans to expand manufacturing production capacity at its site in Bishop, Texas/USA.

Würzburg/Germany – The company plans the expansion for its ultra-high molecular weight polethylene (UHMWPE) product named GUR. The expansion shall increase capacity to 38.000 t/a with completion expected in May 2016.

Furthermore the chemical company is planning to establish a methanol production unit at its existing facility in Bishop, Nueces County. The unit is expected to use natural gas in the Gulf Coast region as a feedstock and will produce speciality chemicals, engineered materials and pharmaceutical products including Celon acetal copolymer, formaldehyde and polyethylene.
