Butadiene CB&I Builds Butadiene Extraction for BASF in Antwerp
American engineering specialists CB&I will work on the expansion of BASF's process plant in Antwerp, Belgium: The company announced today that it has been awarded a contract for the engineering, procurement and construction management for a new butadiene extraction plant at the site.
Antwerp/Belgium – The contract, valued more than US $ 50 million, is an essential part of the total BASF investment amount, company speakers explained. The German based chemical giant currently plans high double-digit million euro investments at Antwerp. The plant is scheduled to start up during 2014.
Award Continues Successful Cooperation
This award builds on CB&I’s existing relationship with BASF as licensor of its butadiene technology, speakers told the press. Butadiene is a raw material that can be used to produce synthetic rubber, among other applications including paper chemicals and plastics production.
