Yenagao/Nigeria – On April 24, an explosion and fire occurred at an illegal oil refining depot located on the border of Nigeria’s Rivers and Imo states. More than 100 people lost their lives in the disaster. All the victims had serious burns which made them unrecognisable, according to news reports. The Rivers state governor had recently initiated a crackdown on illegal refining in the region in a bid to control air pollution.
