Breaking the ground for a service center

That the supplier industry is already interested in the location is demonstrated by pump manufacturer KSB. The Frankenthal-based company recently began work on the construction of a service center in Kizad. KSB has over 160 industrial service facilities around the world.

With a surface area of a good 12,000 m2, the planned structure in Kizad will be the biggest in the Gulf region and one of the world’s largest service centers for the pump supplier. KSB will export materials — including special pumps and valves — from Germany to the United Arab Emirates and plans to use the newly opened Khalifa Port, with its deepwater port and closeness to Kizad, as its main hub.

The infrastructure and proximity to customers in Kizad were also given as key factors in KSD’s decision-making process. At the ground-breaking ceremony, the Managing Director the KSB Service Center Middle East, Raymond Hiel, said: “As well as direct access to the deepwater trading port and the only semi-automated container facility in the region at Khalifa Port, having a presence in Kizad puts KSB near to some of the most important customers in the region, including Emirates Aluminium and the Taweelah power station.”

Strategic partnership

For Kizad, the ground-breaking marks an important milestone on its journey. “We are delighted to be able to support the company in its future expansion plans in the United Arab Emirates. For both Kizad and Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), it is a further significant step in the right direction that we can welcome one of the world’s leading industrial component manufacturers as one of our strategic partners here”, Salmeen said.

In deciding to come to Kizad, KSB is laying a solid foundation for the growth of its businesses in the Middle East and North Africa. “The location will also help us achieve our global expansion plans. We are convinced that the facilities and services that we have obtained from Kizad are an excellent basis for realizing our expansion plans up to the end of 2013”, explained KSB boss Hiel in conclusion.

Kizad managers are currently engaged in discussions with other companies on locating here. The latest German investor to be brought on board is Bauer International, a member of the international Bauer Group based in Schrobenhausen. The company signed a 50-year lease on a service, logistics and customer support center at this year’s Hannover Messe trade fair.
