Lab Glass Filter Dryer (GFD) is an innovative piece of lab filtration and drying or pilot plant equipment. The GFD is a miniature version of a production filter dryer, allowing simple lab filtration and drying with reliability.

The GFD is a smaller version of a production filter dryer allowing lab scale filtration and drying with the same reliability and benefits as full size agitated nutsche filter dryers. The equipment works on a vacuum and is encased in a heated jacket for drying. It has an adjustable agitator running both clockwise and anti-clockwise for smoothing the cake to produce a quicker drying time while maintaining a homogeneous product. Theremovable filtration basket allows total product collection, without having to dig the cake out of the vessel.

Use in Peptide Production

One of the implementation’s of this lab scale filtration and drying is Lonza Braine in Belgium. Talking about GFD, Jean-François Deroubaix, R&D Project Manager at Lonza, where the equipment has recently been installed, said, “The main purpose of the lab filter dryer is for the filtration, washing and drying of isolated peptides after cleaving the peptides from the resin.”

According to Jean-François Deroubaix, the combination of cake agitation with a filter and a dryer in one piece of equipment was highly influential. The glass material of the vessel gives visibility of the process unlike stainless steel filters or other products.
