Maine/USA – Western Cam, a U.S.-based manufacturer of cathode active materials (Cam), recently announced its official launch and entry into the initial sample production phase of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Cam — marking an early step in building a resilient, domestic supply of battery materials essential to America’s energy transition. “We’re not just re-shoring the most important battery materials of this decade and the next — materials originally developed here in the U.S. — we’re reshaping the future of American energy independence,” said Isobel Sheldon, Global CEO and Co-Founder of Western Cam.

“Western Cam exists to restore U.S. capability in this critical part of the battery supply chain — with proven materials, mature processes, and the team to scale it.” “This isn’t about waiting for next-generation breakthroughs. We’re focused on executing the hard part — making proven chemistries manufacturable, affordable, and American. That’s what industry and policy demand right now.”

The company also confirmed that it has secured its first Letter of Intent (LOI) for offtake with a U.S.-based customer — signaling early commercial demand for domestic Cam supply that is compliant with U.S. requirements.

Key Highlights

  • Initial LFP sample production phase underway, slated for completion in Q2 2025
  • First LOI for offtake secured
  • Commercial deployment planning in progress for large-scale U.S. Cam facility
  • Western Cam’s process delivers cost competitiveness with imported LFP producers
  • Team includes original developers of the most efficient and scalable method for LFP production
  • Western Cam finished LFP material is not subject to U.S. Tariffs

Western Cam is developing scalable U.S.-based production of LFP and LMFP cathode materials for electric vehicles, grid storage, and energy infrastructure. The company’s leadership brings decades of experience in commercial cathode production and global process deployment.

Western Cam’s team and process foundation enable high-quality, low-cost Cam production that is competitive with offshore supply — independent of tariff benefits.

Focused on enabling energy security through USA compliant supply of materials, Western Cam is actively engaging with customers, policymakers, and partners to support U.S. industrial strategy and battery supply chain resilience.
