The LAR BioMonitor is the online BOD measurement system for the determination of the sumparameters BOD, toxicity and respiration.

The BOD analyser works like a miniature waste water treatment plant. The plant's own activated sludge degrades the ingredients of the waste water. The oxygen needed to do so is measured. The analyser determines the total BOD including the oxygen that is needed for the nitrification. The measuring results can be easily correlated to the BOD₅.

The BioMonitor is especially suitable for the control and optimisation of industrial and municipal waste water treatment plants. Its possible applications are among others the accurate documetnation of loads of waste water influent and effluent, control of the denitrification, adjustments of a constant load as well as surface water monitoring. This system is particularly suitable for the optimisation of energy expenses as it shows the immediate decomposition potential of the plant's biomass.
