Readily available information regarding risk management is crucial when it comes to addressing disruptions in the production process. When these knowledge sources are "hidden" in physical or digital files, however, this can make taking immediate action even more challenging. IaHAZOP, a new dynamic approach, aims to integrate all essential information in one convenient location, streamlining forward-looking risk management in the process industry.

The more production processes evolve, the faster all management systems ─ including risk management, which includes risk assessment ─ must follow suit. Production is only permitted if a valid risk assessment is available that corresponds with the given facility. Changes in industry such as demographic change and the resulting reduction in experience-based knowledge within the workforce can result in challenging conditions when administering safety and risk related insights, especially those recorded on paper. This can be especially difficult if this information is locked away in a filing cabinet, and an incident occurs outside of regular operating hours when a necessary staff member might not be present to access the necessary background knowledge.

This is where iaHAZOP comes in, a solution that adapts risk management to its direct surroundings. It is available as a tool for technical risk management in both planning and operational phases. Based on digital models that integrate individual components with the entire production process, iaHAZOP can also be installed into a digital twin to provide run-time insights. With this information base, risk management can become adaptive, transparently represent the current situation and react flexibly to changes and upcoming events.
