India: Lithium-Ion Tata Chemicals to Explore Collaborative Technology with Csir-Cecri, Karaikudi

The global chemical company has signed a MOU with the Tamil-Nadu based research institute. Under this agreement, the firm aims to discover potential collaborative technology for increasing the production of cathode materials.

Mumbai/India – Tata Chemicals (TCL), the world’s leading player in basic chemistry products and a leading player in India through its consumer and specialty products, has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Csir-Cecri (Central Electrochemical Research Institute), Karaikudi, to explore collaborative technology for scaling up the manufacture of cathode materials for lithium-ion cells.
Under this MOU, TCL and Csir-Cecri envisage building a partnership which would leverage Csir-Cecri’s intellectual property, capabilities and infrastructure to test and validate multiple possible cathode chemistries, with a view to eventually manufacture lithium-ion batteries for various applications. This partnership is intended to build a strong foundation on commercially scalable cathode chemistries and is in line with the focus on increased electrification in transportation and the thrust on cleaner forms of energy in India. With a transformation agenda built on innovation and sustainability, the company also intends to grow its specialty business.
