Sumitomo Seika Chemicals has completed construction of a dedicated pilot plant for super absorbent polymers (SAPs) at its Himeji Works in Hyogo Prefecture. The facility is intended to support the company’s efforts to develop next-generation SAP products.

To accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation super absorbent polymers (SAPs), Sumitomo Seika Chemicals. has completed a dedicated pilot plant at its Himeji Works in Hyogo Prefecture. The facility, first announced in November 2023, is designed to strengthen the company’s R&D and industrialization capabilities by enabling medium-scale testing in a setting that closely mirrors real-world manufacturing conditions.

With a flexible, expandable design capable of handling high temperatures and pressures, the plant will support the development of advanced production technologies and high value-added SAP products. By bridging development research and industrial application, the new pilot plant is expected to accelerate the commercialization of innovative materials and streamline the transition to full-scale production.
