Many filling materials from the chemical industry place high demands on the durability and permeation protection of packaging. With its combi-drum, Schütz offers a solution that combines the stability of a steel drum with the chemical resistance and corrosion resistance of a plastic drum. This industrial packaging with double leak protection is particularly suitable for highly permeable, aggressive, and corrosive filling materials and was presented at Fachpack 2025.

The choice of suitable packaging depends largely on the properties of the contents. The Schütz combi-drum combines a steel drum and a plastic drum in one container, ensuring optimum stability, cleanliness, and chemical resistance. It is based on a painted standard steel drum, which is fitted with an inner container made of high-quality HDPE plastic.

According to the company, the design offers several advantages: the steel jacket reliably prevents permeation through the outer wall, while the contents come into contact only with the plastic inner container, thereby eliminating corrosion inside the drum. In addition, a circular seal in the intermediate space provides double leakage protection. Thanks to these properties, the combi-drum is particularly suitable for demanding applications in packaging group I, where conventional steel drums or internal coatings reach their limits.

In addition to its high level of safety, the combi-drum also impresses in terms of process flow. Even sensitive processes such as hot filling can be carried out without any problems and without the packaging collapsing, as is the case with purely PE drums. Stacking immediately after filling is also possible, adds the firm.

Customers can choose between a 205-litre version with a 3-kg inner container or a 202-litre version with a 6-kg plastic insert. Depending on requirements, various steel sheet thicknesses are also available. On request, customized branding by screen printing or, alternatively, the Schütz laser barrel as an outer shell are possible, concludes the company.
