The seal uses Trelleborg’s Turcon MF grade of filled PTFE, which is compatible with virtually all chemical media and has superior wear resistance; its also provides low friction and withstands operating temperatures from –250 °C to 260 °C. Since PTFE is not an elastomer, the Trelleborg Variseal incorporates a spring within its profile to ensure leak-free performance under all conditions. For most applications the open design of the standard Variseal is appropriate; the new Variseal Ultra-Clean is a fully-enclosed design where cleanliness or corrosion resistance is a priority. Turcon MF compounds are produced from high purity PTFE grades and additives. Their smooth finish, with high gloss and low porosity, avoids the risk of contamination buildup and reduces particle shedding. They are suitable for high-vacuum use as well as pressures above 100 bar. The Variseal Ultra-Clean can replace standard O-rings, and is suitable for rotary and reciprocating duties as well as static seals.
