Exxon Mobil has undertaken the move due to an increase in demand for low viscosity polyalphaolefin synthetic base stocks as well as to improve its global supply chain network. The company is actively investing in its production facilities and supply chain capabilities in order to stay ahead in the base stocks industry.

Scientists at ETH Zurich and oil and gas company Total have developed a new catalyst that converts CO2 and hydrogen into methanol. The technology is to pave the way for the sustainable production of fuels and chemicals.

The plant is expected to produce 15,500 barrels of gasoline per day and will play a vital role in monetising the country’s natural gas resources. The new plant will also supply the Turkmen home market with synthetic gasoline.

OMV Petrom’s Petrobrazi refinery has utilised Axens’ polyfuel technology in the new unit to upgrade LPG and light cracked naphtha into high quality fuels. The new facility is fully functional since April of this year.

The new methanol plant is expected to be constructed adjacent to Methanex’s existing Geismar 1 and Geismar 2 facilities in Louisiana, USA. The mega project is anticipated to cost between 1.3 – 1.4 billion dollars.

Ineos Styrolution, Trinseo, and Agilyx have collaborated to establish the first of its kind polystyrene chemical recycling plant in Europe. The new commercial scale facility is expected to process up to 50 tonnes-per-day of post-consumer PS feedstock.

Nouryon has undertaken this move after completing a major expansion project at its site in China. Its plant can now produce up to 38,000 tonnes per year of Dicumyl Peroxide. The project is expected to meet the growing demand for DCP within the region as well as around the globe.

In this project, renewable raw materials will be used for the production of bio-based chemicals. Budgeted at 10.9 million dollars, the project aims at creating a sustainable bio-based industry sector in the European region.
