Johnson Matthey (JM) has signed a term sheet for the supply of nickel and cobalt from Nornickel, and an agreement for the supply of lithium hydroxide from SQM. The contracts will help the company to ensure long term sustainable supply of critical raw materials for battery materials production, creating an efficient battery electric vehicle supply chain.

BASF produces two types of styrene with a mass balance approach – renewable feedstock based-styrene and styrene based on chemically recycled feedstock. Johnson Matthey (JM) has been selected to provide its methanol technology to the Haru Oni project, the world’s maiden methanol unit in Patagonia, Chile. The pilot phase of the project is expected to produce around 900,000 liters per year of e-methanol as early as 2022.

Perhaps the boldest chemical engineering project in decades. BASF, Sabic and Linde have plans to establish the project at BASF’s Ludwigshafen site in Germany. The partners will make use of renewable electricity for the project which aims at reducing CO2 emissions by as much as 90 %.

The new green ammonia facility will make use of Haldor Topsoe’s proprietary solid oxide electrolyzer cells (SOEC) to produce green hydrogen from 100 MWs of renewable electricity. The project is expected to be operational by 2024.
