Green hydrogen has been intensively talked about since the past few years but now concrete actions are being taken to accelerate the growth of this key decarbonization solution. Industries which are hard-to-abate are especially keeping a close watch on the development of this clean and green solution.

Under an agreement signed between Cepsa Química and the Persán group, Cepsa Química will use 100 % renewable diesel to transport chemical product supplies to Persán. With this move, both the companies aim to avoid the emission of around 126 tons of CO2 annually.

Lhyfe has already held a groundbreaking ceremony for developing a green hydrogen plant in Germany. The unit is expected to produce up to 1,150 tonnes of green hydrogen per year by using renewable energy such as wind and solar.

Fluor has won an engineering, procurement and construction management services contract for the world's first renewable hydrogen-based integrated ‘green steel’ mill in Boden, Sweden. The unit is expected to produce five million tonnes of steel annually by 2030, with up to 95 % less CO2 emissions as compared to conventional methods.

Nouryon has recently announced that it has obtained the ISCC Plus certification for green ethylene oxide, ethanolamines, and ethylene amines. This certification will enable the company to produce more sustainable surfactants.

The U.S. Department of Energy, under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, has selected two of Chemours Company’s applications for grants totaling 60 million dollars. The grants will support the development of next-generation membranes for PEM water electrolysis and circularity infrastructure for clean hydrogen materials.

Maire has won a Feed contract by MadoquaPower2X to develop an integrated green hydrogen and green ammonia plant in Portugal. The project aims to produce green hydrogen using the alkaline-water electrolyzer technology and green ammonia through the Haber-Bosch process.

Covestro has collaborated with Rondo Energy to install an innovative heat battery at Covestro’s Brunsbüttel site in Germany. The heat battery has the capacity to generate heat and steam for industrial production. By installing it, the battery aims to generate ten percent of the steam needed at the Covestro site with renewable energy.

OQ Chemicals has secured the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Plus for its production site at Bay City in Texas, USA. The certification will help the firm to offer a sustainable alternative to its fossil-based portfolio.
