BASF Coatings has recently inaugurated its largest surface treatment site in Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province, China. The site offers various applied surface treatment products and solutions for numerous market segments and comprises of a smart factory which enables process automation and digitalization of the site operations for high efficiency in manufacturing and site logistics.

With an expected annual production capacity of 80,000 metric tons, the new Neopentyl Glycol plant will assist BASF to become one of the leading NPG manufacturers in the world. The project will also help to meet the growing demand for powder coatings in China.

BASF has recently introduced two new hydrogenation catalysts to its E 15x series – the sulfur-resistant E 15x S catalyst and the novel low-density E 15x L catalyst family. The E 15x S family optimizes the processing of contaminated feedstocks while the E 15x L catalyst family minimizes precious metal loading.

Fluor has secured two engineering, procurement and construction management contracts from BASF for its Zhanjiang Verbund site project in China. The scope of work includes two primary packages – the ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol derivative unit and the infrastructure, offsites and utilities package.

Under a MOU signed between both the parties, BASF will provide its advanced OASE blue CO2 capture process technology while GS E&C will offer a one-stop solution from specialized engineering services, carbon capture, project financing to storage and utilization for developing modular solutions for carbon capture facilities.

Toyo Engineering has been awarded a construction contract along with an engineering, procurement support and construction management services contract for developing separation and purification agent manufacturing facilities in Japan as well as acrylic acid and ethylene plants at BASF’s Zhanjiang Verbund Project in China respectively.

Orthex has plans to use Ineos Styrolution’s styrene acrylonitrile copolymer for producing storage products. The copolymers have been developed in partnership with BASF and is built on the firm’s styrene monomer derived from renewable feedstock which is based on a mass balance approach.

Under a MOU signed between both the parties, BASF and Samsung Heavy Industries will work together to conduct a feasibility assessment of capturing CO2 onboard maritime vessels. The move is in line with the International Maritime Organization’s ambition of reducing the carbon intensity of international shipping by at least 40 % by 2030.
