A group of international researchers have discovered new properties in magnonics-based two-dimensional materials. The results will be used to further enhance information technologies with respect to energy consumption, space and speed.

Clariant has completed the construction of its plant in Podari, Romania. Expected to produce ~50,000 tons of cellulosic ethanol per annum, the unit is claimed to be the first full-scale commercial sunliquid unit for the production of cellulosic ethanol from agricultural residues.

Lanxess has teamed up with BP to produce green plastics by making use of sustainable raw materials. Under the terms of the agreement, BP will supply sustainably produced cyclohexane to the Lanxess’ production site in Antwerp, Belgium to produce the high-performance plastic polyamide 6 which is used in the automotive industry as well as in the electrical and consumer goods sectors.

At Levaco Chemicals, process steam is the principal heating medium used in the reactors. To ensure that this valuable energy source is used as efficiently as possible, the company chose venturi orifice steam traps manufactured by EBE Engineering, Essen, Germany. Levaco’s plant engineer used the steam traps as a basis for comparing different steam trapping methods. His findings came as a surprise to the rest of the team.

Shell has plans to build a 820,000-tons-a-year biofuels facility at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. Once complete, the facility is expected to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel.

Under the terms of the agreement, Dow will design and engineer a new 10,000 ton per year market development unit at its Terneuzen site in the Netherlands. The development unit will make use of Haldor Topsoe’s PureStep technology to purify pyrolysis oil feedstock from waste plastics and advance the technology for industrial-scale purification of circular feedstocks to develop circular plastics.

Haiwan Chemical has awarded a technology contract and license agreement to KVT for the world´s largest Glycerine based Epichlorohydrin production complex. Scheduled to be built in Qingdao, China, KVT will license its Epiprovit closed loop technology to the facility.

The Qingdao Intermediate Court in China has passed a verdict in favor of FMC Corporation in the chlorantraniliprole patent infringement case against the agricultural chemical company Rainbow. The court has ordered Rainbow to compensate FMC for damages and immediately stop manufacturing, selling, offering to sell and using chlorantraniliprole.

With the extension of its subsidiary Synova in Normandy, Total Energies is doubling its mechanical recycling production capacity for recycled polymers, to meet growing demand for sustainable polymers from customers, such as Automotive Manufacturer (Auto OEM) and the construction industry.

Agilyx’s existing patent for chemical recycling of polystyrene has now been expanded to include all waste plastics. The company’s depolymerization technology is capable of breaking down all waste plastic polymers into their respective discrete monomers.
