BASF has switched its production to bio-based Ethyl Acrylate starting Q4 2024. Bio-based EA has a certified 14C-traceable content of 40 % and offers a product carbon footprint reduction of 30 % compared to fossil-based EA.

Under the terms of the 7-year Biomethane Purchase Agreement, Engie will supply BASF with 2.7 to 3.0 terawatt hours of biomethane. With this move, BASF aims to reduce its carbon footprint.

BASF and Yunnan Yuntianhua have successfully registered greenhouse gas emissions reductions from the use of Yuntianhua’s stabilized urea fertilizer which contains BASF's urease inhibitor Limus. The pilot project led to the reduction of over 46,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions.

Encina and BASF have entered into a long-term supply agreement for chemically recycled circular benzene derived from post-consumer end-of-life plastics. BASF will use the chemically recycled benzene for its broad Ccycled product portfolio.

BASF has commenced commercial operations at its Black Mass plant in Schwarzheide, Germany for the purpose of battery recycling. The project is one of the biggest commercial Black Mass plants in Europe and has an annual processing capacity of up to 15,000 tons of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries and production scrap.
