The RNFM22 robot-assisted filling line processes various types of primary packaging without glass-to-glass contact. This prevents damage. At CPHI in Frankfurt, Steriline will present the system developed for a customer in Bangladesh in combination with an automated debagger.

Steriline has developed a new robot-assisted production line for Beximco Pharmaceuticals, a generic drug manufacturer and strategic customer in the key market of Bangladesh. The RNFM22 filling machine for primary packaging processes water-based products and suspensions in nested injection vials from 6R to 50R as well as prefilled syringes (PFS) and cartridges.

No glass-to-glass contact

Depending on the product type, the combo dosing system is equipped with a peristaltic or volumetric pump, and an in-process control (IPC) system controls weight checking statistically or 100 % according to customer requirements. Three Stäubli robots handle the primary containers without glass-to-glass contact to prevent damage. A stopper swing conveyor with a tool-free format change system sorts the stoppers for sealing vials. A control system checks the position at the end of the line. The RNFM22 also seals syringes and cartridges.

At CPHI in Frankfurt, Steriline is exhibiting the filling machine with an automatic debagger (ADB) and an automatic delidder/deliner (ADE). The ADB removes the tubs from the outer protection bag, while the ADE removes the upper, thermally sealed lid and the inner lid.

Quality control via cameras and IPC

“The use of robots, various cameras, and image processing programs in every phase of the filling, sealing, and clogging process, as well as in the quality control, offers operational flexibility,” explains Zaim Gashi, Steriline’s Sales Area Manager for Southeast Asia and the Balkans. Production capacity is up to 2,400 vials and 3,500 1-ml prefilled syringes per hour (without IPC). The machine was developed in accordance with Annex 1 of the EU GMP guidelines.

Federico Fumagalli, CSO of Steriline, emphasizes: “Flexibility, robotization, integration of artificial intelligence, and adaptation to customer requirements are essential elements for us, which we combine with our zero-loss approach to meet the specific needs of our customers.”
