With an estimated project cost of 950 million dollars, Renewable Energy Group has plans to upgrade its existing Geismar renewable diesel project in Louisiana, USA as well as expand the project in order to produce 340 million gallons of renewable diesel per year.
Biofuels producer, Renewable Energy Group, joined Iowa State University (ISU) at the Bio Century Research Farm (BCRF) for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the start of a new hydrotreater pilot plant. This project is the result of a three-year collaboration between REG and the ISU Bioeconomy Institute.
Renewable Energy Group (REG) has decided to shut down its 35 million gallon per year nameplate capacity plant located in Houston, USA in November 2021. The reason behind this is its existing lease agreement as well as lack of multi-feedstock processing capability for delivering clean fuels.
Located in Geismar, Louisiana, the biorefinery is expected to expand its capacity by 250 million gallons annually, thus bringing its total capacity to 340 million gallons per year. Construction work is scheduled to begin in 2021 and will be completed by 2023.
