During the reverse osmosis, FDA conforming full-fit membranes are used. In standard modules, lip sealings are used between the membrane elements, which leads to stagnant water. The outer side is also flushed in full-fit modules and therefore, an extensive perfusion is achieved or bio-film formation on the outer side of the membranes is prevented. Full-fit membranes are worthy of recommendation for reverse osmosis, for applications in the pharmaceutically controlled areas.

The BWT Septron Biosafe modules of EDI designed for pharma hygiene with a casing made of 316L stainless steel, are spiral coil modules unlike plate ED as and they are free of dead space and can be sanitized thermally rather well as well as having an integrated ultra-filtration. WFI users will therefore be able to save several hundred thousand Euro annually in the future without any risk with the help of systems like the Osmotron Pro WFI.
