The Saurus939 piston vacuum pump is the result of Italvacuum’s long and consolidated experience in pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. Each Italvacuum vacuum pump combines a simple and traditional design with highly innovative technical solutions. Among these is mainly the Lubrizero system—designed for double-stage models—which has almost eliminated oil consumption. The Atex-approved Saurus939 is available in six models, three of which use a Roots blower as a backing pump. The nominal flowrates up to 3,800 Nm3/h, with vacuum levels down to 0.03 mbar make this equipment suitable for all the main chemical and pharmaceutical processes.

The air-cooled pumps are made from various combinations of acid-resistant cast iron, bronze, stainless steel, and special steels, so they withstand even the most aggressive solvents. In addition, Saurus 939 guarantees: extreme ease and reliability in 24h / 24h operation; reduced operating costs thanks to low energy consumption motors and its innovative Lubrizero system with negligible oil consumption; and simple, economical and infrequent maintenance.

Vacuum tray dryers

Italvacuum tray dryers comprise a heated drying cabinet containing shelves which are heated by a circulating fluid. The company’s Multispray tray vacuum dryers stand out for their build quality. Its features include mirror polished internal surfaces, precision door fitting which allows operation at high vacuum with low leakage, and “particle-free” trays for complete recovery of powders. Multispray tray dryers are aimed especially at the pharmaceutical industry and are available in two basic cGMP configurations.

This design is extremely easy to clean, with no sharp corners or crevices, all welds ground and polished, and a forward-sloping floor to facilitate the removal of rinse liquid. A wide front flange and set-back legs allow the dryer to be mounted through the cleanroom wall.

A further development shares the high specifications and build quality of the basic model but has removable heating plates to allow rapid cleaning. The plates are mounted on a carrier which can be removed from one piece from the dryer, cleaned and inspected before being replaced. A hydraulically operated stainless-steel trolley is used to move the plate carrier into and out of the dryer easily and safely. To minimize the risk of contamination, the trolley itself does not touch the interiors of the cabinet. This design is therefore especially suited to multi-product use. Both Multispray designs can be supplied with a patented cleaning-in-place (CIP) system based around a mobile pneumatic washing unit with a spray nozzle that fits inside the cabinet. To complement its existing production scale units, Italvacuum has in its portfolio a range of laboratory-size vacuum tray dryers.

Horizontal paddle dryers: Planex System and Cosmodry System

Italvacuum designed its multi-patented Planex System horizontal paddle vacuum dryer to overcome the limits of traditional paddle dryers with concentric agitators. The Planex System has a cylindrical chamber containing an eccentric agitator which can rotate on its own axis and tangentially to the chamber wall. This double rotation covers the whole chamber volume and provides optimal mixing and mass transfer, so drying times are significantly lower than with conventional systems.

The Cosmodry system means power, loading flexibility, drying speed, easy unloading, highest quality of dried product. Compared to conventional dryers, the special design of the agitator with heated shaft means that the internal parts can be dismantled into several sections, quickly and conveniently. This means maximum ease of cleaning, of maintenance and internal inspection: a mix of qualities keeping the machine in perfect working order and optimize production processes, making the Cosmodry System the ideal solution even for multi-product applications.

…And the Rotary vacuum dryer: Criox System

At the top of the Italvacuum range is the Criox System, a patented double cone rotary vacuum dryer that can deal directly with wet cake from filters and centrifuges. Setting the Criox System apart from other double-cone dryers are the two powerful lump breakers inside. These versatile devices improve mixing, cut drying time, and break down existing agglomerates in the feed material. They also stop new lumps from forming to the extent that bulk products leaving the dryer typically require only a simple sifter downstream or may even be bagged directly. Operating through the entire volume of product, the lump breakers considerably reduce drying time and ensure low final moisture contents, yet also allow drying at temperatures that are typically below those required by other dryers. As a result, the Criox System is well-suited to heat-sensitive products.
