Algeria: PP Process Technology Lyondell Basell Licences Spheripol Technology to Sonatrach and Total

Lyondell Basell announced that Sonatrach Total Entreprise Polymères Spa (Step), a joint venture between Sonatrach and Total, will use the Spheripol technology for a 550 KTA polypropylene unit to be constructed in Arzew, Oran province, Algeria.

Rotterdam/The Netherlands — Spheripol is the PP process technology from Lyondell Basell. Step has chosen this technology for its new plant in Oran, Algeria. The latest fifth generation technology includes process improvements that further maximize operational efficiency. The plant will commence operations using Avant ZN catalyst. Jim Seward, the engineering company's vice president of technology business and sustainability commented that the technology allows customers to enhance and significantly diversify their polypropylene product portfolio with outstanding monomer efficiency.

The JV Step is responsible for carrying out the joint petrochemical project in Arzew, western Algeria. The project includes a propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit and a polypropylene production unit with an output capacity of 550,000 tons per year.
