Material and Energy Savings on Pump Rotors

Netzsch also exploits opportunities to save energy and reduce material consumption during rotor production. Besides the standard rotors which are made of solid steel, Netzsch also produces hollow rotors known as tubular rotors. All tubular rotors are made of precision tubing. Large pumps and high-speed pumps run more smoothly, and the lighter-weight rotor reduces the breakaway torque and energy consumption during ongoing operation. A smaller drive is often sufficient. Tubular rotors have a hardened surface to increase the operating life.

Outlook: These examples show that it is now possible to develop sustainable designs which combine environmental protection with low cost of ownership, particularly given the fact that resource conservation has a direct impact on production and operating costs. Netzsch continues to think ahead. Given the increasing scarcity of natural resources and the increased use of alternative but expensive sources of electricity, the company has made further reductions in energy consumption a priority in new pump development.
