The toner which is used in photocopiers and laser printers normally has a d50 particle size between 5.5 and 10 µm.

The amount of particles <2 µm should be kept as low as possible. The latest toners also have a low melting point which must not be exceeded in the production process. Hosokawa Alpine offers a product range which was developed specifically for this application. The solution consists of the TFG Fluid Bed Opposed Jet Mill and superfine TSP and TTSP sifters. According to the manufacturer, the TFG delivers the required particle size along with energy efficiency and a highly selective upper particle size limit. Even toners with high iron oxide content can be processed with almost no abrasion. The product family is easy to clean and is designed for frequent product changeover. The superfine TSP and TTSP sifters are used to separate out fine dust in the <3–5 µm range, which is always generated during toner production.
