Danfoss Power Solutions’ Editron EC-C1700B-420 electric converter has been named a Davidson Prize winner in the annual AE50 Awards program, highlighting its value to the agricultural machinery industry. The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers presented the award to Danfoss on March 1, at the Commodity Classic event in Houston, Texas, USA.

Asabe’s AE50 Awards program recognizes product innovations in agricultural, food, and biological systems. Davidson Prize winners are selected from the top scoring AE50 Award winners, representing the best of the year's newly introduced products. Winners are projected to have a significant impact on agricultural production, efficiency, or safety.

The new solution is a heavy-duty electric converter developed for electric or hybrid drivetrains in mobile machinery, harbor cranes, and marine vessels. Designed specifically for the highly cyclical loads typical in heavy machinery, the converter features a robust design that withstands high levels of mechanical vibrations and shocks. The electric converter is suitable for voltage levels of up to 1,200 volts DC/690 volts AC, making it one of the first 690 VAC mobile converters on the market, shares the company.

Editron EC-C converters are built with components that can handle double the number of load cycles compared to components used in standard industrial inverters, making them a better fit for mobile applications such as agricultural machinery, mentions the firm. The converters’ high-performance vector control drives electric motors accurately and smoothly. They can control induction motors, permanent magnet motors, and reluctance-assisted permanent magnet motors with or without sensors.
