Success Story: Diamand Face Seal Upgrade for a Turkish Glucose Producer

A major glucose plant in Turkey faced recurring seal failures on its high-pressure reactors, with service intervals limited to three months. The original oil-based supply system could not stabilize the 63-bar process pressure during valve operation, resulting in nickel catalyst degradation and unplanned downtime. When the operator expanded to a new four-unit facility, a more reliable sealing solution was required for the 150°C high-pressure environment.

Our engineering and service teams recommended replacing the oil-based system with a water-lubricated Plan 53B solution combined with a Diamond Face Mechanical Seal (DF SHVI D1/105 E1). A modified supply circuit was designed and delivered in a short time frame, and the system was assembled and commissioned on-site by EagleBurgmann specialists.

The new sealing system has since run without interruption, significantly extending service life and eliminating catalyst damage. Impressed by the results, the plant proceeded to retrofit all four reactors with the same configuration. The successful outcome further strengthened confidence our technical expertise and collaborative approach.
