DÜPERTHAL makes smart safety cabinets plug & play-compatible: Cloud-independent integration via OPC UA and OPC UA LADS
Karlstein, March 2026 – DÜPERTHAL Sicherheitstechnik GmbH & Co. KG is consistently driving forward digitalisation in hazardous substance management: DÜPERTHAL now enables cloud-independent integration of sensor-monitored safety cabinets via OPC UA (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture) and OPC UA LADS (Laboratory Analytical Device Standard). This turns smart safety cabinets into plug-and-play components in existing laboratory and building systems, without a separate cloud instance and without proprietary interfaces.
Integrate independently of the cloud
Many laboratories and industrial companies are subject to strict IT policies: sensor data must not leave their own network, cloud solutions are not eligible for approval, and integrations often fail due to proprietary interfaces. With OPC UA, DÜPERTHAL relies on an established standard to transfer status and sensor data from the safety cabinet directly to LIMS or higher-level monitoring systems, locally, standardised and manufacturer-independent. The DÜPERTHAL connect software is always available as a cloud version as an option.
“Today, our customers expect safety infrastructure to not only comply with standards, but also to integrate seamlessly into existing systems,” says Frank Backhaus, Head of Development at DÜPERTHAL Sicherheitstechnik GmbH & Co. KG. "With cloud-independent OPC UA integration, we turn smart safety cabinets into plug-and-play components and give laboratories and operators maximum control over processes."
OPC UA LADS: Standardised connection of laboratory equipment
While OPC UA serves as a universal communication standard, OPC UA LADS addresses the specific requirements of laboratory and analytical environments. LADS defines a standardised information model for laboratory equipment, thereby supporting the consistent integration of sensor data and alarms into typical laboratory system landscapes. DÜPERTHAL thus positions its intelligently equipped safety cabinets as clearly integrable device components within digital laboratory infrastructures.
Strategic expansion of the digital product portfolio
With OPC UA functionality, DÜPERTHAL is strategically expanding its digital portfolio: smart safety solutions are not only monitored, but also become a digitally integrable infrastructure component in laboratory and building operations. The focus is on a plug-and-play approach that supports retrofitting and operation in existing environments with minimal IT overhead.
Note: REST API as a cloud function
Regardless of the new cloud-independent OPC UA integration, DÜPERTHAL connect in the cloud version also offers a REST API for connecting third-party software and existing systems; this requires internet access, a gateway (“DC bridge”) and a software licence.
Availability
Cloud-independent OPC UA integration (including OPC UA LADS) will be available from March 2026.
