Donald Trump is back in office and his policies have left the world stunned. Right from his outright support for fossil fuel production within the United States to rolling back climate, air and water pollution, and emissions regulations, to imposing international trade tariffs, the White House has made many bold moves in the past few months. In the middle of all this, the chemical industry urges all parties to cooperate in the ongoing trade war and find a lasting solution for everyone.
On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump assumed office as President of the United States of America. This is his second tenure after holding the post back in 2017 and he’s already making news across the globe due to his revolutionary policies both at the domestic as well as international level. For instance, his declaration of a National Energy Emergency on his very first day in office shows his strong support for fossil fuel production in the USA unlike the previous Biden backed government.
“We will drill, baby, drill,” said Trump in his inauguration speech, leaving no confusion about his intent to use the country’s massive oil and gas reserves. The move is expected to provide cheaper feedstocks for US petrochemical companies and also reduce energy costs. The National Energy Emergency focuses on oil, natural gas, uranium, coal, biofuels, geothermal, flowing water and critical minerals but not on green or sustainable options such as solar or wind.
