Vienna/Austria – Borouge International has recently announced investments to expand its European mechanical recycling capacity at its sites in Niedergebra, Germany, and Wildon, Austria. The expansion strengthens Borouge International’s ability to meet growing customer demand for mechanically recycled polyolefins produced in Europe. It also supports customers in securing more reliable access to circular materials driven by brand preference, evolving regulatory requirements such as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), and supply resilience needs.

At Borouge International Niedergebra, formerly mtm plastics, annual output of recycled mixed polyolefin (rPO) materials will increase by close to 9 kilo tonnes. The facility transforms post-consumer mixed polyolefin waste into valuable recycled materials for a broad range of rigid applications. The additional capacity is expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2027.

At Borouge International Wildon, formerly Ecoplast, annual recycled polyethylene (rPE) output will increase by up to 5 kilo tonnes. The additional capacity is expected to come on stream in the fourth quarter of 2027 and will support growing demand for recycled materials, particularly for flexible packaging applications.

Borouge International Elin Pelin in Bulgaria, a facility which produces more than 20 kilo tonnes of premium-quality grades of post-consumer recycled polypropylene (rPP) annually, completes Borouge International’s European mechanical recycling portfolio and complements capabilities across flexible PE, rigid PP and mixed polyolefin streams.
