The ‘Global Impact Coalition’ was established in 2023. What was the objective behind forming a coalition focused on reducing emissions in the chemical sector and why did it spin-off from the World Economic Forum?
Charlie Tan: We are working to reduce emissions in the chemical sector because it is a critical sector at the base of over 95 % of the products used by society. At the same time, it is responsible for around 2 billion tonnes, or 5 %, of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. While much of the focus has been on reducing emissions from the energy sector, the chemical sector emissions continue to rise, especially considering the growing global demand.
