Seoul/Korea – The new facility in the Saemangeum Industrial complex in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do province, South korea will be capable of producing 8,600t of PPS resin per year. Together with an existing plant at Tokai, Toray's total annual production capacity could climb to 27,600t/a. The facility, which is anticipated to start operations in April 2016, is Toray's first manufacturing base for PPS resin outside of Japan.
The company said by manufacturing sodium hydrogen sulphide (NaSH) and paradichlorobenzene (p-DCB) - two main raw materials for producing PPS resin at the same plant - it intends to make it a manufacturing base for producing resins from raw materials.
Toray noted that it will also introduce a compounding facility to carry out design and functional processing on the resins. The facility will be capable of producing 3,300t per year and Toray intends to commence shipping it to customers from October 2015.The excess PPS resin produced in the new facility will be supplied to various Toray Group compounding bases, led by the ones in China to further promote global business expansion.Toray said it has also started considering the next phase of production capacity expansion to meet the increasing demand for PPS resins.
