Shanghai/China – This forum, held at the Shanghai Everbright Convention & Exhibition Center, was the third annual event of its kind under the patronage of the Vogel Media Group and the Process magazine. Participants included representatives of China's State Food and Drug Administration, the Pharmaceutical Engineering Committee of China, the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration, the Office of the United States Food and Drug Administration in China and the European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group.

China's pharmaceuticals industry is aiming for a higher production level. The implementation of new Good Manufacturing Practice standards is expected to help China's domestic pharmaceutical engineering to emerge to a more competitive level. Especially engineering design, with its need for a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical production process, is considered to be somewhat of a weak link of the countries pharmaceutical industry.

Quality Management: Focus of This Year's Pharmaceutical Engineering Forum

To meet this need for information exchange within China's emerging industry, the forum was held under a "1+4"-mode: one main forum, that addressed the issue of quality management and four sub-forums that dealt with several special topics. Mrs. Zhang Hua, Director of the GMP Department of Evaluation & Certification Center of Shanghai's Food and Drug Administration, introduced important issues and measures concerning new standards of GMP that are currently implemented with Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises. Doctor Brenda Uratani, Assistant Director of the U.S Food and Drugs Administration’s Office in China, presented quality requirements for active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) on the main forum.

The four sub-forums dealt with the topics of solid preparations and active pharmaceutical ingredients, sterile preparations as well as biological and pharmaceutical factory information and automation. Speakers from several pharmaceutical enterprises, engineering companies, equipment manufacturers and software suppliers provided profound insights on engineering and operational know-how in the pharmaceutical industry.

Dedicated to Information: Knowledge Exchange for Pharmaceutical Engineering

Mrs. Xiao Jie, General Manager of Vogel Media in China and publisher of the Chinese Process Magazine said in her welcoming speech that Vogel has long been dedicated to “making China’s manufacturing industry powerful and prosperous” by providing solid information and a steady knowledge exchange for the industry. Xiao Jie said: "We hold this Pharmaceutical Engineering International Forum with the aim of improving the management of China’s pharmaceutical industry and creating a high-level platform for pharmaceutical engineering services and users to engage in exchanges."
