Achema 2018 The Global Epicenter of Chemicals: Feeling the Pulse of Achema
The leading trade fair for the process industry looks into the future: From June 11th to 15th, Frankfurt will not only become the heart of the sector, but will also provide impulses for chemistry, biotechnology and process technology with new topics and innovations.
As the leading trade fair for a connected industry, Achema's 32nd edition focuses on the megatrends of biotech for chemistry, flexible production, and chemical and pharmaceutical logistics. Whether digitization is fueling the trend towards smaller batches and faster cycles or whether chemical and biotechnological processes bride the gap from gene to product, the trade fair and expo presents itself as a firework of innovation and an trend indicator.
With the logistics hotspot, the organizers set new trends and expand the areas of pharmaceutical packaging and storage technology with topics ranging from intralogistics to traceability to supply chain management.
In 2018, the organizers expect more than 3,800 exhibitors and 170,000 participants from 100 countries, with an even higher share of international companies than in previous years. All this makes for a participation an order of magnitude higher than in other events for the sector — and the once again higher top marks in terms of exhibitor satisfaction speak for themselves.
Achema also bundles practical know-how among its visitors: With 40 % engineers, 19 % technicians or laboratory experts and 14 % chemists and physicists, the trade fair becomes the leading global hub for process specialists. In addition, the Achema Founder's Prize with its mentoring program shall become an incubator for the chemistry start-ups, explains the Dechema.

No reason to rest on one’s laurels: After all, digitization is turning entire value chains upside down. Even though the chemicals are not becoming digital, process monitoring and management are. In the future, digital predictive maintenance solutions as well as the smart marketing of empty capacities up to completely new operator models will find their way into the production facility. Smart Data in the best sense of the word — no wonder that the trade fair puts an emphasis on networking on all channels.
All this combined with an exciting congress program: in around 600 specialist lectures and discussions, trend topics such as the sector coupling in sustainable value chains, the opportunities and risks of digitization or the challenges facing environmental and resource protection in polymer chemistry are taken up. Enough material to make the heart of the process industry beat faster in 2018.
