With rising economic strength, the spending on healthcare is increasing in the upwardly striving economies of countries such as China, India or Brasil. Manufacturers of pharmaceutical components can have a share in this if they have a local base and provide the necessary equipment.
For decades, the growth in turnover in the pharmaceutical industry was carried by the industrialised countries, above all by the USA. But times change: other regions are enjoying a substantially more dynamic growth.
“Two-thirds of growth in pharmaceuticals will in future take place in the pharmerging markets,” according to Olaf J. Müller, CEO of Fette Compacting, Schwarzenbek/Germany. This term covers, amongst other areas, the upwardly striving economic regions in Asia and South America. IMS Health anticipates that countries in these regions will raise their share of the pharma world market from 18 percent to 28 percent in 2015.
Use the Chances – New Markets for Pharmaceutical Products...
These regions offer not only gigantic potential sales opportunities, but are also becoming interesting as production locations. India, for example, has grown in terms of volume to the third largest pharma industry. Brasil is also performing convincingly in this regard. There the turnover in tablets has doubled alone between 2007 and today. Fette reacted in good time to these changes. With the opening in April of this year of their competence centre in Campinas, Brasil, there are now five comparably equipped competence centers directly in the growth markets worldwide. Identically equipped centers exist in China, India, the USA and also in Schwarzenbek.

At the same time, the firm launched an innovation offensive. The trend to smaller batch numbers is being felt everywhere in the pharma industry — all machines must therefore be assessed on the basis of flexibility and productivity. The attention of the developers was therefore principally on short tooling times.
