DMN–Westinghouse's new SAL sanitary airlock was recently granted an EHEDG certificate (EL class 1) – the rotary valve can therefore be used for hygienic clean in place (CIP) process systems.
The manufacturer states that the main advantage of the valve's design is the fact that the unit's shaft sealing areas are also purged during CIP cycles. Since these areas are most likely to be contaminated by settlements and residues, this is a major advantage compared to common mechanic valves. The EHEDG Type EL Class I certificate for rotary valves was granted ton DMN's valve types AL, AXL, AXXL, AML, BL, BXL, BXXL and SAL with PS seal and PET gaskets.
