Isocyanates – commonly used in the Paint & Coatings industry to create more durable coatings with outstanding aesthetic properties – can cause a variety of short- and long-term health problems if workers are over-exposed to these highly reactive chemicals. Isocyanates can also be flammable if there is the presence of explosive vapors on the same site. Given their unique properties, isocyanates require a pump that handles product gently (low shearing), has strong suction capability, and offers a low-maintenance wear-compensation design.
The SLC Series Eccentric Disc Pump features superior suction at low speeds, ensuring minimum product is left in the piping prior to maintenance. The unique design allows the pump to self-compensate for mechanical wear, giving the eccentric disc pump the ability to maintain consistent flow rates over time, Mouve says. SLC Series Eccentric Disc Pumps are ATEX-rated and TA–Luft–certified for operations in explosive environments. The unit is self-priming and can run dry for up to 10 minutes. All three SLC models have speeds up to 1,000 RPM with flow rates from 4.4 gpm (1 m3/h) to 13.2 gpm (3 m3/h), and differential pressures from 87 psi (6 bar) to 232 psi (16 bar). SLC pumps are available in stainless steel and ductile iron models.
